Do you have to identify as black to be a member of BLSA?
No – you do not have to identify as Black to be a BLSA member. We are open to all – no matter your race, color, national origin or ancestry.

How often does VLS BLSA have events?
VLS BLSA holds at least one program a month, sometimes more. In addition, we organize programs tailored to the academic and career needs of our constituents, and much more.
Do VLS BLSA chapter members have to pay dues?
No – VLS BLSA members do not have to pay dues to be a member of the chapter. However, you are required to pay national dues to attend regional and national conferences, and use the National Black Law Students Association’s resources.
What is the National Black Law Students Association (“NBLSA”) and Villanova Black Law Students Association (“VLS BLSA”)?
NBLSA is the national organization that VLS BLSA falls under, and its mission is to increase the number of culturally responsible Black and minority attorneys that excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. NBLSA has national, regional, and local structures. VLS BLSA is a local Philadelphia chapter and our chapter is in the Mid-Atlantic region, which is called MABLSA. MABLSA is one of six NBLSA regions.
Do I have to pay dues to NBLSA?
No – you are not required to pay dues to NBLSA. However, being a national dues-paying member has many benefits. Some benefits include your ability to: utilize academic resources, attend regional and national conventions, attend employment fairs across the country, and utilize various discounts or savings programs.
